The A1000 certainly can. It has built in stereo speakers <?> which
sure can vibrate the phone with a heavy bass playing, but you really
need to use the headset. It can play many formats (MIDI,WMA,WAV,AU
and others) although I've only just tried a MP3 as a ring-tune - it
may well allow any file type, but it's usually easy to convert file
formats to suit.
It also has software to view MS Word, EWxcel, Powerpoint, PDF, JPEG,
HTML etc., and plays MP4 video files on a reasonable screen
USB transfer speed is very slow - took 1.5 mins to transfer a 3MB MP3,
but it happily 'installed' it as a 3 minute ring 'tune'.
I just fitted a 128MB transflash 'card' (£16) which comes with a SD
card adaptor, so you can use a regular card reader/writer, but since
the transflash card is fitted under the baterry it is probably best
left in situ and to use the slow USB transfer.
I've only had it a week now, and I do like it. 1st game I tried was
excellent, and I'm hoping to get some GPS software running on it soon
(being updated from the older A920/5 version of software). Cheap (low
cost) phone on cheap tarrif = I'm happy.
If "3" were to give Internet access at 3G speed then this phone would
be perfect. The supplied CD even comes with IPsec VPN client, but
sadly I can't use it.
