    Default How to make your headphones louder...

    Hey All,

    I realize that some of you out there have probably noticed that the volume through the headphones is somewhat... pants. To sort this out here's the instructions...

    NOTE: We're going to be using the service set-up menu for this so be VERY careful - the wrong press in the wrong place can seriously mess up your phone. To scroll through the menu system use the jog-dial on the back!

    --- As usual I (which includes anyone at Mobile Expert) am (are) NOT liable for any damage done to your mobile device due to tapping the wrong parts of the screen at ANY time, and/or failure to read this properly, and in sequence ---

    1: Tap the 'dial' key and enter: 3845#*990#
    2: Tap [2] Device Test
    3: Scroll to, and tap [8] Sound
    4: Scroll to, and tap [7] Audio CAL Tool
    5: Tap [1] Sound Calibration
    6: Tap [3] Change Sound DB
    7: Change 'snd_device_type' to 'SND_STEREO_HEADSET_MEDIA' (3rd option) by tapping the [+]
    8: Change 'snd_method_type' to 'METHOD_MIDI' (4th option) as above
    9: Change 'Item_Title' to 'rx_volume_db7(dec)' {NOTE1}
    10: Tap the empty 'Set Data' box
    11: Enter '500'
    12: Tap the '-(minus)' key; to the left of 'OK'
    13: Tap 'OK' - The box above should now be at '-500' {NOTE2}
    14: Tap the 'Return' button; to the right of 'OK' {NOTE3}
    15: Tap [1] Write SND DB to EFS
    16: Press the Red 'End Call' button {NOTE4}

    NOTE1: 'rx_volume_db?(dec)' is the stages of volume set; where '?' refers from 0 (off) to 7 (full).

    NOTE2: Don't ask me why but the more negative the number the quieter it gets. '0' would be full blast but there's too much distortion to be effective; positive numbers are just worse. '-500' seems to be adequate but play around to your own liking...

    NOTE3: If you press [c] you'll just cancel everything...

    NOTE4: If you had your volume set at 7 before you'll need to change it and set it back to hear the change.

    FINAL NOTE: If you need to reset the information, the original value was '-1400'...

    Happy days
    Regards,

    I followed your instructions word for word but it had made no difference to my output mate.

    I even went back into my setup to see if the changes had been stored but it read the same as when I originally went in

    Hey TP,

    I've just been through the instructions step by step myself and nearly deafened myself by setting the volume to 0.

    All I can think of is one of the following...

    9: Change 'Item_Title' to 'rx_volume_db7(dec)' Option 7
    Double check this.

    13: Tap 'OK' - The box above should now be at '-500'
    Double check this.

    14: Tap the 'Return' button; to the right of 'OK'
    This is nothing short of essential - Do not tap [c] as the change will just be cancelled.

    15: Tap [1] Write SND DB to EFS
    You will hear a 'beep' signifying the change has been set. Once this is done you can go back to 'CHANGE SOUND DB' and re-check as the information is now 'written' to the phone.

    The screen settings as displayed at 'CHANGE SOUND DB' should read:
    -----------------------------
    SND CALIBRATION

    snd_device_type
    SND_STEREO_HEA{DSET_MEDIA}

    snd_method_type
    METHOD_MIDI

    Item Title
    rx_volume_db_7(d{ec)}

    Get Data
    -500

    Set Data

    -----------------------------

    As I said, I've read through and done this step by step; at the worst possible time - after a full-on night out and nearly no sleep and it still works - shouldn't really have been stupid enough to test the volume at '0' but I needed to be sure.

    Please run through it again and let me know how you get on.

    Cheers,

    Will
