Default How many GBs in a Viewty w/o lag?

I would like to know what the maximum capacity of a memory card is in a Viewty without the delay. I had a Nokia N73, and bought a 2GB memory card for it - and when filled only just over 1GB it started to jam the phone from booting, so I'd like to avoid that, by ensuring that it actually can handle the GBs.
(sorry if this may be a double post, the previous one got deleted because I didn't read the rules too carefully )

what i have found is it really all depends on what is on the sd card, i have an 8gb card full of divx movies for example, which works wonderfully well (as long as i've set video/camera saving to phone memory rather than external) but if i am using my 4gb card which has mainly files and work documents on, it has difficulty if you are using more than 2 gb. oh and be very careful if you are using an 8gb card not to format it as then you can only use 2gb of it, as yet havent been able to reformat it to get it back to 8gb!!
    hope this helps

Well said, I totally agree. It's not the amount of space you use, it is, like you said, more about the number of files stored. I've found the manual was less than forthcoming about anything like this and it's all learned through trial and error at the moment.

I've yet to buy a memory card, but the phone's getting sluggish with 'only' 113 games/books/apps on it!

If you intend on watching movies then 8GB wouldn't be a problem however I'd advise breaking the movie up into 'chapters' if possible because there's currently no way to save your position within the movie short of 'multitasking' - which is a swine on the battery

i've got a 2GB sandisk card in mine, no problems at all but i just record video/take photos on to the phone and move them on to the card when i need to free space and access them on the pc. not had any issues. personally i think an 8gb card would be overkill, i'm happy with a dozen albums and a couple of movies. its easy enough to copy a new movie on every day and i don't find myself wanting to re-watch movies straight away.

i use 4gb sdhc it works fine. 8gb works but as you reach the 6gb mark it starts to lag, i had a chance to play around with memoty cards in the shop since the shop owner didnt know the answer either.

Officially in Germany there is written in the manual that the Viewty only sipports cards with a maximum of 2GB but I'm also using a 4Gb card, if there are only songs and videos it works fine with the full 4GB!

Have you tried saving directly to the phone memory then transferring them to the card afterwards?

It doesn't have to scan for much space on the phone's memory so it'll be more or less instant (-ish), whereas it scans the card for space every picture taken; which is why it takes so long...

    Just a thought...

I'm also using a 8gb Sandisk SDHC card and it works fine. As said before U have to set kamera to save on the phones internal memory becasue the phone can't handle the SDHC card (bigger then 2gb) 100%. Mine is 75% full with movies, mp3 and games. A little lag when accesing mp3's but nothing that disturbs me!

As I said in the post you quoted - 'ScanDisc'. They're very good and are one of the main memory card manufacturers.

Still had no probs with mine, just watching a film on my phone now actually

Well after trying 2gb, 4gb and 8gb it seems that with 2 gb you get very lagg but when at 4 and 8 they both take similar times to save, it would be nice if lg made memory to be virtual ram so everything loads quicker anyway .

That is weird, my post on this thread is gone. Anyways as I posted before, I tried 8MB but it slowed my phone, when I took pictures, I had to wait for 2 mins before I can take another pictures. So I suggest using 4gb

Its maybe because you set your viewty to save the pictures on the card and not in the internal memory ?

I have a 2 GB Kingston, and full i've never had a problem with it! =] Might have lagged once, but after rebooting it worked fine.

I read someone is using an 8GB memory card though??? I didnt know the LG could support that much memory. Does it really work okay?

    I think there's a big misunderstanding here...

The Viewty 'supports' up to 2GB, meaning that anything you do to the card using the phone (as in adding stuff) it won't let you use more than 2GB. But...

If the card has stuff already stored on it (from a PC for example) then it WILL read the whole card (up to 8GB so far) without a problem.

Basically, Put stuff (music/movies etc) on the card using a PC/Mac until there's 2GB free space left on the card and your phone should have no problem picking it up/saving to it.

EG: If you have an 8GB Card, Phone will pick it up as 2GB and store information up to 2GB. If you have 8GB with 5GB worth of music (for instance) then the phone will read all the music but will still only let you write to 2GB left over (the other 1GB will be wasted!)

    Hope this helps

NOTE: If it doesn't make sense I'm sorry, I've confused myself just reading it back
