    Default Hypothetical Question

You have a button in front of you, assume if you press it, someone, somewhere, will die instantly and painlessly. This is a person you have never met. This person is selected randomly out of a pool consisting of all individuals you have never met.

By pressing the button, you receive £1,000,000.

    Could you do it

C'mon chris answer the question would you push the button, i have the same morals as you do, my answer to the question is i don't know, the reason i say that is because i really dont know if i would do it if i was actually there with the button in front of me.

Put it this way. If it was the other way round and you were a potential victim of the button, how would you rate your chances? in this day and age, the way some people are in the world today, greed, poverty, desperation and sheer selfishness can take hold...personally i wouldn't fancy mine lol. + + + = +

Seriously, some people kill people they actually do know for far far less than a £1 000 000, sometimes not even for money I love my family so, so much and i worship my little girl that i would do it to give MY family a better life...guess i must come under the 'selfish' category lol

Out comes the soap box now lol.

I suppose this is the meaning behind War. Innocents being slain so other people who have never met them can have better lives..This thread really can open a lot of moral and ethical issues, just depends how far you wanna take it

George W. Bush presses a button to determine the fate of thousands every day, and will probably end an american hero?

    Red face Hypothetical Question...

I'd have to NOT click I'm afraid. Basied on the curious inevitebility of my life, I'd press the button and the only person who'd die would be the guy who was going to sign the cheque for the £1M...

...Admittedly, I'd laugh hysterically at my usual 'luck' and press it again...

...Ooh, and without being 'sick', is it viable to ask anyone this who has a case of violent and uncrontrollable shakes? - I mean, that's half the planet gone right there.

The idea sounds great, the person dies instantly and painlessly... but he still dies. That will probably ruin the lives of more than 10 people forever.

It just makes it impossible for me to choose...

Hmm, if that's how you see the world (stereotypical) then you really ought to start hanging out with better people.

I don't see the link between depression and button pushing?!

Anywho, I guess the deeper theory behind this is WHO actually dies. If it's some decent family guy who's worked his butt off all his life to support his three lovely kids and caring wife then if you push that button you're pulling the terrorism thing and it's just wrong on so many levels.

On the other hand, if it was someone who has wasted their life giving multiple opportunities to 'get back in the game' and still blown it (think George Best, no offense to his spouses and relatives) then deep down inside, it's still wrong because you didn't know that he/she (everyone assumes the soon-to-be-dead-person is a he - Does everyone hate men?!) was going to ruin their life again until they did (I think).

It's a decent idea were it not for the fact that I believe that the good people outweigh the bad and I'm not going to be the man who leaves someone without a cherished family member, let alone be the man who eventually meets up with them and says 'Oh, THAT button, it was HIM?! - Bugger! Do you want half of the money, it's the least I can do'

I'm happy with what I've got to be honest, which isn't much, but there are worse off people out there. If I'm going to start pressing buttons and killing for money I'd buy a decent WS2000 and sit on a big hill. At least then I'd know the right person was going to get it.

Rant over, thanks for your time. I'd have blogged this but I wouldn't be allowed to link to it ::grins maniacally::

Thank you, call again. I'm here all week.

That line is crying out to go on a t-shirt! )

I don't think I could push the button ... I'd end up thinking about who the 'mystery' person might be ...

Of course, I can say this in the secure knowledge that I'm NEVER going to have that button in front of me!

I would not. Cause lets think. I do not know any of you. If I press yes button it might be one of you, right?
So I think if you would press the button it could be me dying, right? Now, who would do something like that to a nice girl?

It could be a far better person, who may be able to change the direction of world politics, not worth £1000000 in anybodies money.

    THINK
Maybe this is not just a poll.
Maybe someone you know who died suddenly and painlessly died because some one pushed a button and is now driving a ferrari.

    THINK
Is it even possible for this 'button' to exist?...I think not...
So if you did get the chance would you not push the 'button' just for the fact that it exists?...
